Two adventurous spirited
brothers, John and Ben Padew, brought their young families
south from Kansas soon after the Civil War. Midway of this
arduous wagon journey, trouble suddenly and mysteriously developed
between the brothers alienating the two families for the rest
of time.
Nora, John’s wife, takes special delight in the developing
bond with her red-haired, high spirited granddaughter, Callie,
who is drawn to Nora’s strength and unconditional love,
and intrigued by her family history of pioneer days.
Through the ensuing years, Nora makes repeated attempts to
discover the cause of the brother’s estrangement. In
one attempt to solve the mystery, instead, she gets the fright
of her life.
This narration deals with human frailty, courage set in an
earthy panorama of rural community life. It is told in sensitivity
and humor, devoid of violence and obscenity, to present a
prescription for life’s rich fulfillment.
