I was a young man growing up on a South Dakota farm, during the dust
bowl days of the 1930s. During the Depression Days, when everyone lost
their homes and farms because times were hard and money was short, it
seemed we were doomed forever. But after the war things changed, and I
was able to move from the farm to a small town.
Because of ill health I could no longer do farm work. I learned the plumbing and heating business
from an older man and became self-employed in a plumbing and heating
contracting business. I owned and operated this business for 38 years and
became a millionaire by age 65, retiring as a well-to-do man. This story tells
all about my life, from near starvation on a South Dakota farm, to becoming
a millionaire.
