Daniel A. Watton, married
to Michele Watton, is father of one daughter and two boys. Raised
in Southern California and later in Malden, Massachusetts, he
served as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for
15 years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR).
Duty assignments included Operations Officer for the Coast Guard
Gulf Strike Team in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi (now in Mobile,
Alabama), and Chief of the Marine Environmental Response Division
at the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Office in Boston (MSO Boston).
During this time he over-saw federal response actions for major
marine incidents to prevent large-scale environmental impacts.
Coordinated salvage operations of tank ships and barges during
groundings and collisions, responded to chemical explosions
onboard freight ships, and provided support during hurricane
events on the Gulf Coast. Awarded numerous military awards and
citations during active duty including the Coast Guard Achievement
Medal, he is presently employed as an Environmental Engineer
with NSTAR Electric & Gas in Massachusetts. Mr. Watton holds
a BS from Suffolk University and an MS from Long Island University.
He has written numerous articles on Environmental Engineering
that appeared in trade publications and has authored many stories
for the Coast Guard publication Commandant's Bulletin.
